What is the Lions Tour?
Coming together once every four years, The British & Irish Lions are formed of the very best rugby union players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to challenge the giants of the sport in the southern hemisphere in a series of hard-fought matches over five weeks.
In 2017, the Lions are heading to New Zealand to take on the world champions, the legendary All Blacks, in a three test match series. It’s little wonder that being selected for a Lions Tour is the ultimate accolade for any player from the British Isles & Ireland – or that fan interest is always feverish.
But Lions tours are about more than just rugby. Transcending national rivalries, they showcase the best the sport has to offer. They promote the sport and the converging of fans for love of the game, creating friendships and shared experiences that transcend nationalities and cultures in a celebration of individual skill and, most importantly, teamwork.
